Now Open: Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Boynton Beach

The new Holiday Inn Express & Suites opened in Boynton Beach adding 92 rooms. The new property officially opened on March 7th with 13 full time employees!
 

Two Palm Beach County Resorts Earn Top Honors from Forbes Travel Guide

For the second consecutive year, Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa in Manalapan and the Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach have received Forbes’ Five Star Award. Expansion in the Works for Loggerhead Marinelife Center

The expansion that will nearly double the size of the Loggerhead Marinelife Center is set to begin at the end of this year and scheduled to open fall of 2020. Bigger hospital and research facilities, more classrooms, an auditorium, a Discovery Zone interactive exhibit hall and an amphitheater with wall-to-ceiling ocean reef tank are planned. There will be an outdoor cafe and a hall with flexible space for public and private events. “This will put LMC on the map globally as a leader in sea turtle education, research and conservation,” said Lynne Wells, LMC’s capital campaign director.

O’Donnell Agency earns 18 ADDY Awards

West Palm Beach Based O’Donnell Agency has won 18 ADDY Awards from the American Advertising Federation of The Treasure Coast. Among those awards was the Gold Award for their logo, created by designer Amanda Sueiro Rier, for Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation. The Gold Award recognizes the highest level of creative excellence and is judged to be superior to all other entrants in the competition. The agency was also recognized for their work with the Historical Society of Palm Beach County, Palm Beach County Business Development Board, Palm Beach Veterinary Specialist, the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County, Riviera Beach Marina Village, Shoppe 561 and others.

The Palm Beaches is #1 in Occupancy in the State for the Month of February

From January to February 2017 Occupancy was 82% ranking first in the State year to date. Room nights sold has grown by 1% ranking 9th in the State. ADR was flat at $224 and RevPAR was $184 both measures moving up from 4th, just behind The Keys and Naples.

For the Month of February:

  • Room nights sold increased by 3.5%
  • Room Inventory Growth was 1.5% with the opening of Holiday Inn Express Boynton Beach
  • Average Daily Rate was $243

RevPAR was up 2.2% to $213

This past month our Meeting & Convention sales team attended the following shows and events. They networked with new and existing planners to explore new business opportunities for The Palm Beaches.

Local Flavor DR

During the month of March we took 6 planners on a journey to experience "Discover The Local Flavor of The Palm Beaches". We started at the Boca Raton Resort and Club and took the planners on a journey through south county to experience such things as The Addison and a scavenger hunt in Delray Beach. Their journey continued through central county with stops at the Convention Center and neighboring hotels and a tour of Palm Beach Island. Overall the group experienced over 15 destination venues and we had over 5 Leads created from this event.
 

Aly Fernandez

New Hire:

Aly Fernandez has joined the Discover The Palm Beaches team as the Senior Director, Destination Services & Trade Activities. In this new role, Aly will be responsible for the development and execution of strategies focused on increasing room night production through the enhanced management of all destination services and trade activities. 

Aly has been providing consulting services to DTPB since July 2016 and most recently was with Nordstrom’s in Miami where she held several key management and leadership positions in sales and services.  Prior to that, she worked for several years with Sharp Electronics - Latin America Group based out of Miami where she served in  senior management positions including Director of Operations.
 

 

Leisure Sales
The Leisure Sales team hit the road extensively this month. Eda Ruddock, Director of Leisure Sales, North America, partnered with VISIT FLORIDA for a Sales Mission to Chicago to educate agents in the Windy City about the destination.  She also traveled to Georgia in conjunction with the Group Sales team and successfully strengthened relationships with travel agents in the Atlanta market.
 
Rodrigo Trujillo traveled to Colombia where he visited over 20 travel agencies and tour operators before attending the three-day tradeshow, ANATO. As an exhibitor, he showcased the destination to hundreds of attendees. Shortly after, he crossed the Atlantic hopped across the pond to join Discover’s newly appointed UK representation firm, Hills Balfour for sales calls and an appointment only tradeshow for Brand USA.
 
The team is transitioning to sales strategies for the summer months, which is the perfect time for Destination Reviews. Both Directors are working closely with airline companies and travel agencies to bring top producers to experience The Palm Beaches. With increased knowledge on the destination, agents can effectively communicate with clients that The Palm Beaches is the Best Way to Experience Florida. Plans for Agents and Operators from the Bahamas, Brazil, Colombia and the United Kingdom are underway.
 

Marketing and Public Relations News

Gerry Marcelo
This month, the Public Relations department collectively hosted five media representatives from various outlets including El Nuevo Herald, Dallas Morning News, Toronto Sun, Travelocity and The Social Girl Traveler.

The Public Relations department also conducted a UK Media Mission with VISIT FLORIDA, where they met with UK-based media in the UK through media events and desk side appointments. In addition to this, the department also held four deskside appointments with contributors to the BBC, National Geographic Traveller- UK, Marie Claire, Weddings & Ideas and House and Home.

Adding to their team, the department also hired Senior Manager of Social Media, Gerry Marcelo. Gerry will oversee Discover’s Social Media platforms and blog content. He will report to Ashley Svarney, Director of Public Relations and Communications.

Gerry was most recently with CBS 12 as the Digital Content Manager, where he helped increase the station’s Facebook following to a market-leading number of followers. In addition to his excellent understanding of social media management, he also oversaw all editorial content that was presented over digital and mobile products. Prior to CBS 12, Gerry was the Director of Digital Media and Digital Marketing at KVUE, the ABC television affiliate in Austin, Texas, the city he called home for 18 years.
