It’s official: Palm Beach County National Travel and Tourism Week Proclamation received

On May 2nd, Jorge Pesquera, Don Kolodz, Glenn Jergensen, and representatives of all the TDC agencies attended the Board of County Commission Meeting. There they received a proclamation recognizing May 7th - 13th as National Travel and Tourism Week in Palm Beach County. Glenn Jergensen provided overarching remarks on all the TDC agencies contributions to business development.

PBIA announces new service to Key West and Tallahassee

Silver Airways flight 146 from West Palm Beach (PBI) to Key West (EYW) will operate 1x daily, 5x weekly; Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Booking options are currently available. “The addition of non-stop service to Key West and same plane Tallahassee service gives our passengers the ease and convenience of PBI and great, new destinations.  We are excited to expand our partnership with Silver Airways and happy to offer more options for our travelers,” said Bruce Pelly, director of Airports for Palm Beach County.

In celebration of this year’s National Travel & Tourism Week’s theme “Faces of Travel,” HotelPlanner and Meetings.com helped to shine a spotlight on those individuals who have had a major impact on the U.S. travel industry. The top performing sales managers were selected based on a combination of factors including outstanding customer service, the most competitive rates, and fast response times. Richard Netzel of Best Western Palm Beach Lakes was recognized for the U.S. – South group.

Jupiter Dive Center – FREE BleachWatch Seminar

Want to learn more about our reefs? The Coral Reef Conservation Program is hosting a FREE BleachWatch Seminar at Jupiter Dive Center on June 8th!! Learn about the BleachWatch program and how we can make a difference by helping to monitor the reefs we love! Kristi Kerrigan, the Reef Resilience Coordinator will be informing attendees of the current conditions in South Florida and how you can help. The seminar will teach attendees how to identify bleaching and how to effectively report it. All divers and non-divers are welcome. The event is June 8th from 6 – 9 p.m. Click here to learn more.

The Palm Beaches occupancy ranked 4th in the State year to date

From January to April 2017 Occupancy was 82% ranking 4th in the State. Room nights sold has grown by 2.5% ranking 7th in the State. ADR was $222 and RevPAR was $182 both measures having positive increases. Thanks to all our partners for delivering exceptional experiences and reaffirming our brand promise.
 
For the Month of April:

  • Room nights sold increased by 3.7% ranking 7th
  • Average Daily Rate was $191
  • RevPAR was up 7.5% to $146

Q1 International Visitation numbers show increase in Argentinian Market

  • Argentina was up 14% in visitation and up 37% in room nights
  • The Bahamas was up 2% in visitation and 7% in room nights
  • Colombia was up 2% in visitation
  • Canada was flat in visitation
  • Brazil was flat in visitation
  • China was up 9% in room nights

April Destination Review

  • The team created a theme for the April Destination Review, ‘What Energizes Planners in The Palm Beaches’, which helped showcase opportunities for unique experiences in Palm Beach County and with Partners that are provide “energizing experiences” to attendees and meeting planners alike.
  • Seven customers were in attendance and wore fitness trackers during their stay so that they could count their steps during their time with in the destination. The planner’s steps were counted from Thursday afternoon to Saturday morning, and the planner with the most steps logged over 30,000 steps while on the destination review! In addition to steps, there were optional wellness activities which included beach yoga, which allowed planners to relax and energize! The group had “energizing” food items from enhanced coffee bars to tuna and salmon chirashi to nitrogen ice cream.
  • The group also took part in a variety of “energizing” activities which included team building lawn games at the Hilton West Palm Beach and making your own spa scrub at The Eau Spa.

Leisure Sales Activities

Discover The Palm Beaches’ Marketing and Leisure Sales team has continued to explore new ways to promote Palm Beach County. This past month our Marketing and Leisure Sales team attended the Hickory Convention Trade Show in Boca Raton, May 11.
 

 

Our Leisure Sales Team hosted the following Destination Reviews for tour operators and travel agents:

  • May 2-4 the team hosted 13 travel agents and tour operators from the Bahamas
  • May 7-9 the team hosted 7 travel agents and tour operators from Brazil
  • May 17-19 the team and our representation agency, Hills Balfour hosted 10 travel agents and tour operators from the UK

Marketing and Public Relations News

 
This month, the Public Relations department hosted seven media representatives and contributors representing outlets such as Selecta Magazine, Hometown News, Wherever I May Roam Blog, House of Coco (UK), Mascara Maven, Irish Sunday Independent (UK), BridalGuide.com. 

In addition, the team attended the PRSA Conference on Travel and Tourism in Palm Springs, CA, where Veronica Arrieta met with key industry contacts, media and emerging trends in the industry. 

Distributed press releases included: Summer Affordability in The Palm Beaches to the Domestic market, as well as the UK market. The Brazilian release focused on Affordability in general. Additionally, a post-event release about Travel Rally Day was also distributed locally. Blog posts this month touched on Attainable Luxury, Area Gardens, Guided Tours, Boating, Snorkeling and History.
