5 ways to practice mindfulness and self-care this October

September 23, 2022

Local blogger Anna Fenstermacher gives us some ideas to recharge and rejuvenate during Spatober: The Palm Beaches Wellness Month.

October is Spatober: The Palm Beaches Wellness Month, meaning that various local businesses in Palm Beach County share special wellness deals and discounts. Practicing self-care and wellness is key in maintaining a healthy mind, body, and soul. Experiencing these 5 practices is a surefire way to have a well-rounded and well-balanced life. If you are just starting out on your wellness journey, or have been prioritizing your well-being for years, this list is a great place to start and continue the lifelong practice of self-care.

Walk or Bike The Lake Trail

Fresh air and sunshine is one of the easiest ways to re-center and relax. Spend some time this fall enjoying a sunset walk on the Palm Beach Lake Trail. Located along the pristine edge of the Intracoastal, the Lake Trail offers 5 and a half miles of pure bliss. Whether you enjoy walking, biking, or jogging with a furry friend, this picture-perfect path is a great spot to exercise your body, mind, and spirit. There is no better place for a peaceful meditation than under a palm tree with beautiful views of West Palm Beach. There is something so magical about finding an ideal grassy spot along the trail to lay down your favorite blanket, enjoying some charcuterie from your picture basket, and watching the sun go down over the buildings of West Palm Beach. These moments allow me to reflect on both the good and bad things of life, and help me to refocus on my purpose and plan for my life.

Shop at The Farmers Market

After exercising on the Lake Trail, it is very important to refuel your body with healthy foods. What better place to stock up on local treasures than at the various green markets in Palm Beach County. The West Palm Beach Green Market will reopen for the season on Saturday, October 1. Check out local vendors and farmers. Whether you’re shopping for a sweet treat like apple cider donuts, or looking for fresh ingredients for a new recipe, the green market will have something for everyone. Various markets throughout Palm Beach County are open different days and times, so be sure to check online for the weekly schedules and vendors. Self-care is all about treating your body well from the inside out, and fueling up with fresh organic produce is one of the best ways to start. A fresh basked pastry also doesn’t hurt now and then.

Dance Under The Moon

If dancing is a way you like to practice self-care, check out Be You Disco’s silent disco. For the month of October, Be You Disco has a full calendar of wellness-focused events. From sunrise meditations to full moon cacao ceremonies, Be You Disco will awaken a strong sense of community and self-expression in us all. If you have recently moved to South Florida, this is a great way to meet new like-minded people and make friends. Building relationships within the community is an excellent way to practice self-care and mindfulness. Having a friend to lean on is key at every stage of life.
