Events Roundup: The Spirit of Summer Comes Alive in The Palm Beaches

May 30, 2019

Golden days of summer sunshine and spectacular starlit nights are filled with music, magic and a mix of festive fun that you will only find in The Palm Beaches.

An “iCONE-ic” Twist on Summer Fun
Downtown West Palm Beach’s annual Summer in Paradise celebration is taking an “iCONE-ic” twist this summer, in honor of the Clematis Streetscape renovation project. The summer-long celebration of art, music, games and family fun will feature a distinctive “fun-struction” cone theme, running from June 1 to August 1.

Play a game of giant Cone Checkers, let kids explore real construction vehicles, and get lost in the Cone-y Island Maze designed out of construction materials and including interactive play zones, shady areas and refreshing water misters. Every Thursday during Clematis by Night, bring a comfy chair or blanket and jam to live music concerts ranging from reggae to classic rock. On Fridays, put on your flashiest “traffic cone orangewear” to compete for prizes during Orange Out, and on SnowCONE Saturdays cool off with a free snow cone, while supplies last.

The second Friday of June and July, gather for family-friendly movies under the stars during Screen on the Green. And join the fun during 4th on Flagler, South Florida’s largest free Independence Day event that concludes with a dazzling fireworks extravaganza over the West Palm Beach waterfront.

Independence Day the Delray Beach Way

Familt at Delray Beach 4th of July

Celebrate Independence Day “the Delray Beach way” during Delray Beach July 4th Celebration. This free, fun and patriotic event happens along A1A and Atlantic Avenue. Start your day by taking inspiration from the Silverball Museum’s professional sand sculpture, and join the sand-castle building contest just east of the Pavilion. Throughout the day, enjoy family activities like playtime in the Kid’s Corner, games of putt-putt at Putt’n Around Mini-Golf and getting your face painted.

When tummies start rumbling, tuck into some delicious specialties provided by local food trucks. And make new friends while blowing the froth of a few in the beer garden. At 5 p.m., participate in a flag-raising ceremony at Gleason and Atlantic Avenues, followed by back-to-back performances of live music until dark. Then it’s time to settle back for the show: a thrilling fireworks display over the Atlantic Ocean, launched from a barge just east of the Marriott.

Palm Beach Haitian American Music Festival
Party all day and into the night! Don't miss a beat or a moment. From Kompa to Zook the Palm Beach Haitian American Music Festival is the place to be. Bring your friends, family and a spirit to party.

The Festival welcomes everyone to enjoy a party all about Haitian customs, dress, food, drink, language, craftsmanship, and most of – the music performed by singers, bands, DJs, and dancers. It takes place at the Expo Center at the South Florida Fairgrounds on July 6th. Buy your tickets in advance, children 9 and under are free.

Shakespeare by the Sea
“Good night, good night! parting is such sweet sorrow,
That I shall say good night till it be morrow.”

Enjoy enchanting summer nights of Shakespeare by the Sea during the Palm Beach Shakespeare Festival, July 11-14 and July 18-21, at the Seabreeze Amphitheater in Jupiter’s Carlin Park. Come early to play and lounge on the beach, or explore Jupiter’s historic buildings, art museums and galleries. Then head to the amphitheater for the evening performance.

This year the company presents the Bard’s most enduring yet tragic romance, Romeo and Juliet. Of course it wouldn’t be Palm Beaches Shakespeare if this iconic tale of star-crossed lovers didn’t come with a twist that includes some editorial liberties taken to transform the time and location of the story. So grab your blanket and a picnic basket—or get treats from local food trucks—and settle in for a new take on the eternally feuding Montagues and Capulets. Admission is free. (Donations appreciated!)

Suds, Sounds, Treats & Sweets

Beer Fest taster cup

There’s not much that’s as refreshing as sipping an ice-cold beer on a hot summer day. Take a break from the heat on July 20, and sample everyone’s favorite bubbly brew at South Florida’s only indoor craft beer festival. The Palm Beach Summer Beer Fest is held in the air-conditioned Expo Center of the South Florida Fairgrounds.

Sample more than 150 artisanal and craft beers, and for those inclined, enjoy whiskey and bourbon tastings as well. No matter what you choose to imbibe, you’ll find great treats to pair them with among the massive Food Truck Invasion, and sweet endings that satisfy with ice cream and doughnut tastings. The fun includes live tunes from local bands and performers, a silent disco party, and a game room with carnival games, Jenga and that beer-game staple, cornhole.

Purchase your general admission ticket in advance (before July 15) and receive a five-ounce custom beer sampling mug with unlimited sampling during the show. Advance V.I.P. admission gets you all the perks of general admission, plus it lets you into the fun an hour early to enjoy timed and limited releases. You also receive a food voucher for the indoor concessions and some custom V.I.P. swag. Designated Driver tickets include complimentary water and soda. Cheers!

Celebrate the Flavors of Delray Beach

A fruit drink over looking the beach

Experience the diverse dining scene of downtown Delray Beach from August 1 to 7, during Dine Out Downtown Delray Restaurant Week. The week-long affair offers culinary experiences and events, including wine and beer tastings, food pairing dinners, juicing and nutrition classes, and cocktail and cooking lessons. More than 35 restaurants are participating, located along Atlantic Avenue, Pineapple Grove and the Sofa District.

The annual event has options to satisfy every taste bud, including the freshest seafood, juicy cast-iron seared burgers and homemade pasta selections, some paired with spectacular oceanside views. The event not only provides locals and visitors with an opportunity to sample the flavors of downtown restaurants, cafés and juice bars, but it raises awareness and proceeds for Living Hungry in support of Not One Hungry Homeless Student in Delray Beach. Multi-course prix fixe lunch menus start at $20, and dinner menus start at $40 per person. Reservations made directly through participating restaurants and merchants are strongly encouraged.
