Events Roundup: What to Do This October in The Palm Beaches

September 26, 2018

Coming up in The Palm Beaches this month are a traditional Oktoberfest celebration, a pirate-and-mermaid party that will leave you saying “Yo ho ho!”—and a full month of special offers on pampering spa treatments.

If you didn’t make it to Munich this year, never fear—The Palm Beaches are home to a festive, family-friendly celebration of all things German for two weekends in October. The American German Club of The Palm Beaches hosts its 45th annual Oktoberfest on Oct. 12-14 and Oct. 19-21 in Lake Worth.

Gather under the pavilion and giant tent for authentic German dishes, dancing and imports straight from Munich, including Original Hofbräu Bier and two live bands. Dine on bratwurst, Leberkäse (a delicacy similar to bologna), potato salad, sauerkraut and pastries. Sip beer and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Take in traditional folk dancing and choral singing, and participate in sing-alongs. The family-friendly festival also features vendors, craft booths, carnival rides and a kids’ zone.

Boynton Beach Haunted Pirate Fest and Mermaid Splash

Avast ye! Put on your favorite pirate or mermaid costume (or maybe a combination of both) and take a crash course in pirate-speak before making your way to downtown Boynton Beach on Oct. 27 and 28 for the free Haunted Pirate Fest and Mermaid Splash.

The area transforms into Hobb’s Cove, an old-world port, and Merlandia, a mermaid lagoon, both offering opportunities to encounter these storied creatures. Lads and lasses of all ages are welcome for two days of pirate re-enactments, a parade of pirates, costume contests, live music, concessions along Grub and Grog Row, vendor booths and more.

Spa & Wellness Month

Looking for relaxation and rejuvenation? There’s no better time to visit than October—also known as Spa & Wellness Month in The Palm Beaches. For one month only, treat yourself (or a loved one) to massages, facials, body scrubs, blowouts and more.

Every year brings discounts on spa treatments, group fitness classes and healthy eats, and this year brings three new opportunities: District Fit, a weekend-long wellness festival complete with classes in drum fitness, a fun run and a vegan-inspired dinner; bootcamp classes at FITTEAM Ballpark of The Palm Beaches; and a fitness crawl through downtown West Palm Beach.
