Taking a road trip to The Palm Beaches? Here is What's Open

Raise your hand if you want to take a road trip?

Road trips are making a comeback, and when choosing your destination, it’s best to know what’s available and open. Whether you’re a county resident looking to discover a new side of The Palm Beaches or driving down from a nearby county or state, we’ve compiled a helpful tips and signature attractions you may want to add to your to-do list while you’re in town. Make sure to familiarize yourself with their current hours, offerings and safety procedures ahead of visiting to ensure you have the best experience when in destination. Want to stay beyond the day? Busch Wildlife Sanctuary – View furry, feathered and scaly creatures during a visit to this local family favorite. Since 1983, the Sanctuary is dedicated to the protection and conservation of Florida’s wildlife and natural resources. Visitors may see Florida Panthers, bobcats, Black bears, among other native wildlife. Perk: in addition to viewing current patients and residents, guests also walk along various Florida habitats such as pine flat-woods, oak hammocks and cypress wetlands. Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum – A guiding light in the town of Jupiter since 1860, visitors can explore the historic grounds, take in the view from atop of the landmark Lighthouse, and listen to audio tours from their own cell phones via the Lighthouse smartphone app in English, French or Spanish. If traveling with little ones a ‘Charlie Pierce’ children’s tour option is also available on the app. Though portions of the site are currently closed given the circumstances, guests will receive a Museum voucher for a complimentary return visit once the Museum re-opens at a later date. The latest information to be aware of before you visit can be found here. Tip: Wear comfy shoes; it’s a 105-step climb to the top. The perk: it’s the tallest point in Palm Beach County! 

Jupiter Lighthouse

Lighthouse Cove Adventure Golf – Play one or both of the 18-hole courses with the family or friends, followed by on-site lunch or dinner at the Burger Shack or ice cream at the 3 Scoops ice cream. Tip: if you bring your own putter you save $1. Perk: each hole is 25 to 40 feet away, which makes safe distances from other groups very feasible while on the course. Juno Beach

Loggerhead Marinelife Center – If you’re a fan of sea turtles and saving the planet, then you’ll enjoy this stop. On a mission to promote the conservation of ocean ecosystems with a special focus on sea turtles, this center educates the public through engaging programming and rehabilitates sea turtles with the purpose of being released back to the wild. The perk here (besides the many sea turtles and friendly staff) is that this center is located just steps away from some of the most densely nested loggerhead sea turtle beaches in the world! Pack your swimwear and beach gear to enjoy the beach pre- or post-visit. Safety measures being taken at the center can be found here. Restroom facilities are available on site for paid visitors and at the nearby Loggerhead Park.

Palm Beach Gardens

The Gardens Mall – A number of stores and restaurants are offering delivery packages to your car, and the growing list of open stores and restaurants is available here. Following safety first measures, a list of what measures have been put in place can be read here.

Riviera Beach

Rapids Water Park – 42 water attractions, including a variety of slides, a FlowRider and lazy river can help you and those in your household stay cool this summer. Tickets and parking passes are available for purchase online. COVID-19 safety measures are in place as well, and browsable here

West Palm Beach

Drive Shack – Play golf in these open-air, temperature-controlled bays that allow virtual play of courses from all over the globe. This is one of only four locations in the USA. Safety & social distancing in place can be viewed in one of their posts here

Mounts Botanical Garden – Enjoy the fresh air and greenery as you explore the 14-acre living plant museum’s more than 20 colorful garden areas. Also know that the Garden has increased safety measures, which are available for your review here.
Tip: Make sure to bring your hats and sunscreen for a more comfortable experience. Perk: you may get inspired to improve your greenspace at home.

Palm Beach Kennel Club - Now open daily including the Poker Room.  Both the Paddock Restaurant and The Terrace Restaurant are also open for lunch daily and for dinners on Friday and Saturday. Live racing is scheduled daily with post time at 1pm and evening races on Friday and Saturday at 7pm.  You can find updated health and safety information here.

Palm Beach Outlets – Most stores have re-opened at this outdoor mall, many with curbside pick-up.  A full list of stores and restaurants is available here, as are the Outlets’ COVID-19 UpdateTip: we encourage you to view the stores individual opening information before visiting.

Palm Beach Segway Tours – One of the best ways to see the downtown West Palm Beach and the Town of Palm Beach, you can book private tours for four or more. A 24-hour advance booking is required. COVID-19 updates are visible on their website. 

Palm Beach Zoo – Though you may have a zoo in your area, it’s very likely that this zoo has something you’ve never seen before. After all it is home to hundreds of animals and 190 different species, many of which are endangered. Though some areas are currently closed to visitors, you can still enjoy the one-way, shaded by a tropical canopy-covered path through the animal exhibits and the Fountain Plaza splash pad. South Florida Science Center & Aquarium –All exhibits are now open at the Center, including the Discovery Playground. Visitors can enjoy 3D-printed personal “button-pushers”, available for rent of purchase, which allow for a more hands-on experience without needing to directly touch them. The Conservation Mini Golf Course, Planetarium Shows, Live Science demonstrations, interactive experiments, and music as you explore the Science Trail are all part of the Center’s current offerings.  To find out the latest information regarding the Center’s safety guidelines, read on here.

West Palm Beach Food Tour - Currently offering only private tours, you can now enjoy the same fabulous tour options with your close friends or family. Tour options include “Downtown West Palm Beach Walking Food Tour”, the “Historic West Palm Beach Neighborhood Food Tour” or the “Cooking Class & Market Tour.” COVID-19 Safety Procedures are in place as well, and available under the website’s Book Your Food Tour section.

The Flagler Museum - Standing tall 118 years after it was built, Henry Morrison Flagler’s historic 75-room mansion invites visitors to take in the splendor of the historic Gilded-age home of the man who is commonly acknowledged with starting Florida’s tourism industry.  Perk, you’ll be able to enjoy the stunning spaces and historic grounds without the crowds. The Royal Poinciana Plaza – Experience the elegance and style of Palm Beach at this jewel box oasis – a shopping staple of the destination for more than 50 years. Lion Country Safari – Roam the Safari in the comfort of your own vehicle as you explore Florida’s largest drive-through Safari Park. The outdoor Outpost gift shop is open daily, and food and beverage options are available outdoors as well with credit card use only. Tickets must be pre-purchased, and guests can stream the Audio Tour through the website upon arrival. Though limited, restroom facilities are available to guests.  Tip: bring snacks to enjoy inside your car while you travel through the seven sections of the safari park. Perk: You get to enjoy the amazing wildlife views at a reduced price with daily capacity limits.

Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens – Started by a small community of Japanese farmers more than a century ago, this museum invites guests to explore the connection between South Florida and Japanese culture through its 16-acre garden while its museum houses more than 7,000 Japanese art objects and artifacts. Sandoway Discovery Center – Visitors traveling to the Delray Beach area can learn about Florida’s fragile marine and freshwater environments through educational outdoor animal encounters. Open since 1998, the Center is most recognized for its shark, stingray and alligator feedings in addition to Southeast Florida’s largest private shell collection.
