Ever wanted to splash around in an aquarium? That’s pretty much what it’s like to snorkel or scuba dive in The Palm Beaches. Just beyond our 47-mile coastline lies part of the only living barrier coral reef system in the continental United States, with lush coral and limestone formations, shipwrecks, and sea life ranging from tiny seahorses to goliath grouper. Thanks to our proximity to the Gulf Stream — closer than any other point in Florida, to be exact — our warm, clear waters boast one of the most diverse marine ecosystems in the country.

Top snorkeling spots include Blue Heron Bridge at Phil Foster Park, the Underwater Snorkel Trail, John D. MacArthur Beach State Park, Peanut Island, Red Reef Park, and Coral Cove Park. The Palm Beaches also boast multiple shipwrecks that lie just off the coast, many of which were sunk to create sustainable marine habitats. Sharks, goliath groupers, and other jumbo-sized beasts gather at wrecks like the Ana Cecilia, the Sea Emperor, the United Caribbean, and the Noulla Express.
