Discover The Palm Beaches, the official tourism marketing corporation for Palm Beach County, is seeking a paid intern to assist the Public Relations and Communications team. This unique opportunity offers students the hands-on, real-world training to learn what it takes to effectively promote America’s First Resort Destination® through productive projects, performance feedback, valuable networking, and educational opportunities within the industry. Candidates for this position should be prepared to commit at least three months to the program. If interested in an internship, please submit a resume, cover letter and one AP-style writing sample.

The internship length will total 150 hours, with the option to extend for additional time as agreed upon by the intern and the employer. This position will be compensated at a rate of $10 per hour, with a minimum of 18 hours a week, excluding unpaid 30-minute lunch breaks.  Hours can be completed in full days or half days as previously determined by the employer’s needs and the intern’s availability.  The deadline for applications would be on or before August 1st.  The internship will begin on either the end of August or the beginning of September.

  • Draft basic public relations materials such as fact sheets, backgrounders, media briefing documents, social media content, blogs, media alerts, calendar announcements, advertorials, meeting summaries, status reports, program recaps and other materials as directed (20%)
  • Analyze and support monthly performance reporting (20%)
  • Create and maintain media lists and editorial calendars (15%)
  • Conduct media research to support media pitching and key initiatives (10%)
  • Coordinate the itineraries of visiting journalists, from preparation to post follow-up. (5%)
  • Assist with updates to the online press site and other administrative duties as assigned (10%)
  • Assist in event planning and execution (5%)
  • Maintain project budgets (5%)
  • Produce presentations and award submissions (5%)
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions (5%)


  • The successful candidate will be results-oriented, self-directed and well organized.  This person should can establish and shift priorities in a dynamic environment and possess at a minimum, the following qualifications:
    • Currently pursuing a degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Hospitality, or related field
    • Strong desire for hands-on learning in the travel, tourism and hospitality industry
    • Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, with knowledge of AP Style
    • Working knowledge of the internet, blogs, social media strategies, online media distribution channels and utilization/implementation in active digital/print promotions
    • Excellent computer literacy with experience using Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher and Outlook
    • Ability to think creatively and analytically
    • Knowledge of how to strategically leverage social media
    • Attention to detail and organization
    • Adept to working on deadlines and balancing multiple projects
    • Team player with a positive cooperative attitude
    • Self-motivated, self-starter able to work independently
