Before you cross Cato’s Bridge into the colony, be sure to stop at the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum. This iconic lighthouse is tucked away in a grove of palm trees and live oaks, overlooking the confluence of the Loxahatchee River and the Indian River. First lit in 1860, this lighthouse has a storied past that’s best explored through a guided tour offered by the nonprofit Loxahatchee River Historical Society. If you’ve still got some time, explore the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area, the only unit of the National Conservation Lands east of the Mississippi River. Take a walk along the trails and boardwalk while learning about the site’s role as a U.S. intelligence spy station during World War II.

Upon crossing Cato’s Bridge, you’ll be met with idyllic views of the crystal-clear waters of Indian River and the staggering biodiversity that the inlet is known for. This is a popular spot for visitors to sit on the rocky outcroppings and watch the passenger ships drift by. Once you make it across, grab a paddleboard from Hui Hui Stand Up Paddleboard Rentals and make your way back to Indian River for a day of fun in the sun.
