Summer in The Palm Beaches is warm, tropical and humid. Daytime temperatures typically reach the upper 80s to low 90s, with warm evenings and plenty of sunshine.

Summer is also part of South Florida’s rainy season, so brief afternoon showers and thunderstorms are common. That doesn’t necessarily mean a full day of rain. Mornings can be a great time to head to the beach or plan outdoor activities, with indoor attractions making an easy backup for later in the day.

Summer Travel Tip: Plan outdoor adventures earlier in the day, stay hydrated and keep an eye on the local forecast. A quick afternoon shower can be a good excuse to explore one of the area’s museums, shops or indoor attractions.

Can You Swim in The Palm Beaches During Summer?

Absolutely. Summer brings some of the warmest ocean temperatures of the year, making it a popular season for swimming, snorkeling and other water activities.

With 47 miles of Atlantic coastline, there are plenty of beaches to explore throughout The Palm Beaches. Head to Jupiter for laid-back beach days, discover the clear waters around Singer Island and Riviera Beach, or spend the day along the shoreline in Delray Beach or Boca Raton.

Always check current beach conditions, weather and posted safety information before entering the water.

Snorkel Beneath the Surface

Family snorkeling at Peanut Island

Summer is a great time to discover what lies beneath the water.

One of the destination’s best-known snorkeling spots is Blue Heron Bridge at Phil Foster Park in Riviera Beach. Its underwater snorkel trail is home to tropical fish, rays, seahorses and other marine life. For the clearest conditions, plan your visit around high tide.

A proximité, L'île aux cacahuètes offers another popular spot for swimming, snorkeling and spending the day by the water.

Plus au nord, Parc de Coral Cove in Tequesta combines a quieter beach setting with natural limestone formations and opportunities to spot marine life close to shore.

Good to Know: Morning hours and high tide can offer some of the best snorkeling conditions. Always check tides and weather before heading out.

Sortir sur l'eau

There’s more than one way to experience summer on the water.

Au Jupiter Outdoor Center – Parc Riverbend, rent a kayak or canoe or join a guided eco-tour along the nationally designated Wild and Scenic Loxahatchee River. The route winds through cypress trees and natural Florida landscapes that feel worlds away from the beach.

À West Palm Beach, Visiter Palm Beach offers ways to explore the Intracoastal Waterway with catamaran cruises, kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkeling excursions and other outdoor adventures.

You can also make your way to L'île aux cacahuètes for a day of swimming, snorkeling and relaxing along the shoreline.

Meet The Palm Beaches’ Sea Turtles

Loggerhead Marinelife Center

Known as La capitale des tortues marines de Floride, The Palm Beaches are home to some of the most important sea turtle nesting beaches in the country. Summer falls right in the heart of sea turtle nesting season, making it an especially meaningful time to learn about these seasonal visitors.

Visiter Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach to see sea turtle patients undergoing rehabilitation and learn more about marine conservation through exhibits and educational programs.

You may also notice marked sea turtle nests along local beaches during the summer months. Give nests and wildlife plenty of space, avoid disturbing nesting turtles and follow local guidelines when visiting the beach after dark.

Make a Splash at Rapids Water Park

For a full day of slides, pools and family fun, head to Parc aquatique des rapides à Riviera Beach.

The South Florida water park offers more than 40 slides and attractions, from high-speed thrills to a wave pool, lazy river and family-friendly water play.

It’s an easy way to build an entire summer day around cooling off.

Discover More Family-Friendly Attractions

Not every summer adventure has to happen at the beach.

Spend a morning exploring the shaded tropical grounds of Zoo de Palm Beach et société de conservation in West Palm Beach, where visitors can see animals from Florida and around the world.

A proximité, Centre scientifique et aquarium Cox offers hands-on exhibits, an aquarium, planetarium and interactive science experiences that make it an especially useful option when an afternoon shower rolls through.

For even more wildlife experiences, make your way to Safari au pays des lions in Loxahatchee, where a drive-through safari brings visitors close to animals from around the world.

Cool Off with Arts & Culture

Musée d'art Norton

When you’re ready for a break from the sunshine, explore the cultural side of The Palm Beaches.

A l'occasion de la Musée d'art Norton in West Palm Beach, wander through collections spanning American, European, Chinese and contemporary art and photography.

What Should You Pack for Summer in The Palm Beaches?

Pack for warm weather, time outdoors and the occasional tropical shower.

Bring lightweight and breathable clothing, comfortable sandals or walking shoes, swimwear and a cover-up, sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen and a reusable water bottle.

A lightweight rain jacket or small umbrella can also come in handy for afternoon showers. If you plan to visit museums or other indoor attractions, consider carrying a light layer for air-conditioned spaces.

And don’t forget a reusable bag for wet swimsuits and beach gear.

Summer FAQs

Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June 1 through November 30. That doesn’t mean a storm will affect your trip, but travelers visiting during this period should keep an eye on the forecast and review their hotel, airline and travel insurance policies before traveling.

Morning is a great choice. Temperatures are generally more comfortable earlier in the day, and afternoon showers and thunderstorms become more common as the day progresses.

I love the happy hours in the summer especially Delray Beach and Boca Raton at Mizner Park. Summer is also the best time to try out new Palm Beach restaurants that are always booked up during season!
