Fishing for A Great Meal in The Palm Beaches

Fishing for A Great Meal in The Palm Beaches

We asked locals about their favorite seafood restaurants … and they told us!

When it comes to finding great restaurants, the rule of thumb is to ask “the locals” where they like to eat. So we went to our Facebook group of local residents and asked them about their favorite seafood restaurants – and they weren’t shy in giving us their opinions. Some places are simple, some elegant and others stylish, but all of them have one thing in common: great local seafood. Listed in alphabetical order, here are their suggestions.

Boca Landing at the Waterstone, 999 E. Camino Real, Boca Raton, FL 33432

Boca Landing at Waterstone Resort offers a showcase of local flavors with a romantic view of Lake Boca. Try the delectable calamari, fish dip, or the lobster mac and cheese. Choose your entrée from a wide range of local fish and seafood favorites, like pan-seared grouper and mustard-crusted yellowtail snapper. Make sure you save room for the Key lime pie … because all seafood meals must end with Key lime pie.

The Breakers Seafood Bar, 1 S. County Rd., Palm Beach, FL 33480

Located within the iconic Breakers Palm Beach, this seafood bar truly deserves its reputation as an unforgettable dining experience. Featuring a beautiful aquarium bar, nautical yacht theme and a to-die-for view of the Atlantic, this is the place for freshly caught and freshly prepared seafood dishes. The Seafood Bar promises a full Palm Beach-style dining experience, and it certainly delivers.

Captain Charley’s Reef Grill, 12846 US-1, Juno Beach, FL 33408

A place with simple décor and friendly atmosphere, Captain Charlie’s Reef Grill offers a variety of fish prepared nearly any way you wish. They also have dishes appropriate for smaller appetites, like peppered tuna medallions, blackened scallop salad, and shrimp and grits. An extensive wine list makes this a great place to chat over a glass before (and during and after) dinner.

Cod and Capers Seafood, 1201 US-1, North Palm Beach, FL 33408

A popular and well-respected market for fresh and frozen seafood, Cod and Capers Seafood added a café a few years back. They describe their fare as “simple, yet delicious” dishes made from the same fish they offer for sale. The dining is modest but perfectly fine for an establishment where the fish is the star.

Cool’A Fish Bar, 11340 Legacy Ave. E-100, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410

Billed as casual, this tropical restaurant specializes in fresh, locally caught seafood.  A cozy interior and great atmosphere make this a fine choice for date night as well as dinner with family. Try one of the seafood bowls or one of the fish entrees served with a choice of two sides.

Deck 84, 840 E. Atlantic Ave., Delray Beach, FL 33483

Deck 84 in Delray Beach has a delicious menu – and a delicious location right along the Intracoastal Waterway, adjacent to the Atlantic Avenue Bridge. Look forward to a casual waterfront dining experience with seasonally inspired dishes like tuna steak, jumbo lump crab cakes and a 10-ounce burger. Two bars keep the frozen drinks and craft beers flowing. There’s docking space so you can arrive by boat. And if you bring your catch, they’ll cook it for you!

Eagle Grill and Oyster Bar, 4636 S. Jog Rd., Greenacres, Florida 33467

The folks at Eagle Grill and Oyster Bar describe themselves as a friendly neighborhood restaurant with good food, and this approach has worked well for them. Start out with a selection from the oyster bar, or perhaps some conch chowder and seared tuna. Then move onto their famous crab cakes for your meal, or maybe the snapper or mahi is more your taste. There’s a great selection of landlubber meals as well.

The Fish Depot Bar and Grill, 511 NE 4th St., Boynton Beach, FL 33435

Featuring an open patio with covered tables and a stage, The Fish Depot is a place for live music as well as seafood. Select from house specialties like rum caramel scallops and whole yellowtail snapper to fish tacos, po’boys and fresh mahi sandwiches. Then kick back with a cold one and enjoy great local and national music acts.

Hogsnappers 279 US-1, Tequesta, FL 33469

Decorated in intimate island décor, Hogsnappers sets the mood with Caribbean art and reggae music. An expansive menu of island-style seafood dishes as well as sushi creations are available. Try the ceviche with a cold draft beer. The place has a pleasing beach vibe, without getting sand in your shoes.

Hurricane Café, 14050 U.S. 1, Juno Beach, FL 33408

Known for a casual yet upscale feel, Hurricane Café serves a variety of seafood dishes during dinner. Try one of their “big plates,” like sautéed snapper with baby shrimp and grilled avocado, or sweet potato-crusted grouper with mango ginger.

Juno Fish House, 13980 US-1, Juno Beach, FL 33408

Decorated with colorful mosaics and ocean themes, the Juno Fish House boasts a wide selection of seafood dishes. They prepare their food with a “Floribbean flair,” with local catch prepared with local style and presentation. Check the menu for lobster specials, and save room for a delightful crème brulee.

Latitudes, 2809 S. Ocean Blvd., Highland Beach, FL 33487

Part of Delray Sands Resort, Latitudes offers an oceanside dining experience. The raw bar is described by those in the know as “divine,” with a presentation that’s second to none. Dive into chilled Gulf Coast shrimp, Alaskan king crab, ceviche traditionale or Crab Louis stuffed avocado. The menu offers Florida snapper and grouper prepared to bring out the flavors of fresh-caught fish.

Little Moir’s Food Shack, 103 U.S. 1 D3, Jupiter, FL 33477

Known to locals as simply “The Food Shack,” this unassuming and artsy little place is heavily patronized and popular. The place is decorated with tropical art and mounted game fish. A long list of daily specials like panko fried oysters, spicy tuna ceviche and catch of the day await you, followed by dessert choices that include raspberry Key lime pie and “Stoners Delight” with Nutella, Reese’s peanut butter cups and marshmallows, to give your savory evening a sweet finish.

Prime Catch, 700 E. Woolbright Rd., Boynton Beach, FL 33435

Offering breathtaking views of the Intracoastal Waterway, Prime Catch specializes in yellowtail snapper, Maine lobster and grouper. The menu offers many choices to both seafood fans and landlubbers. Docking-and-dining is available, and large family groups are welcomed.

Victoria’s Peruvian Restaurant, 111 S. 3rd St., Lantana, FL 33462

Serving classic dishes from Peru, this modest but welcoming restaurant serves a famous ceviche mixto – chunks of fish marinated in citrus juices with shrimp, calamari and octopus. A plethora of Peruvian dishes are on the menu, including many beef entrees.   This is just the beginning of all the fantastic places to eat seafood in The Palm Beaches. As a matter of fact, we left off all the tasty sushi places suggested, since that should be its own category (look for that list later!).
