By: Jessica Pierce
Whether you’re looking for a relaxing paddle, an unforgettable wildlife encounter or a family-friendly outdoor adventure, The Palm Beaches offer kayaking experiences for every skill level throughout the year. Continue your outdoor adventure by exploring our state parks, nature preserves, beaches and watersports and other ways to experience Florida’s natural beauty.

The Palm Beaches are home to some of South Florida’s most diverse paddling environments. Peaceful mangrove tunnels, freshwater rivers, coastal lagoons and protected nature preserves create countless opportunities to get out on the water.
Along the way, you may spot manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, ospreys, herons and countless other native species. With year-round warm weather and plenty of outfitters offering rentals and guided eco tours, kayaking is one of the easiest ways to experience The Palm Beaches’ natural beauty.
John D. MacArthur Beach State Park
One of the most popular kayaking destinations in The Palm Beaches, John D. MacArthur Beach State Park offers calm estuarine waters that are perfect for paddlers of all experience levels. Launch your kayak and explore the park’s winding mangrove trails before making your way to Munyon Island, where nature trails and picnic areas await. Along the way, keep an eye out for manatees, shorebirds, fish and other native wildlife that call this protected coastal habitat home.

Riverbend Park
Located along the federally designated Wild and Scenic Loxahatchee River, Riverbend Park is one of South Florida’s most scenic paddling destinations. More than 10 miles of waterways wind through towering cypress trees, offering a peaceful escape into nature. The calm river makes this an excellent choice for families and beginners, while experienced paddlers can venture farther to discover historic landmarks, including the former home of Trapper Nelson.

Jonathan Dickinson State Park
Adventure seekers will love paddling through Jonathan Dickinson State Park, where the Loxahatchee River winds through one of Florida’s most diverse natural landscapes. The river’s slow-moving waters offer opportunities to spot turtles, wading birds, otters and, during the cooler months, manatees. Pair your paddle with hiking, biking, fishing or camping to enjoy a full day or weekend outdoors.

Grassy Waters Preserve
Just minutes from downtown West Palm Beach, Grassy Waters Preserve offers a peaceful escape into one of South Florida’s largest wetlands. Guided paddling programs provide visitors with an opportunity to explore this unique ecosystem while learning about native plants, wildlife and conservation efforts.
Snook Islands Natural Area
Paddle through the calm waters of Snook Islands Natural Area, where restored mangrove islands create a peaceful escape for kayakers and paddleboarders. Keep an eye out for tropical fish, wading birds and other native wildlife while exploring one of The Palm Beaches’ hidden gems.
Peanut Island
For a unique paddling adventure, kayak to Peanut Island, a favorite destination for both locals and visitors. The calm surrounding waters make it a popular spot for kayaking, while the island itself offers picnic areas, walking paths and access to some of the area’s best snorkeling.

No kayak? No problem.
Throughout The Palm Beaches, you’ll find places offering single and tandem kayak rentals, guided eco tours and specialty paddling experiences for every skill level. Most rentals include paddles, life jackets and a brief orientation, making it easy for first-time kayakers to get out on the water.
