Wellington Staycation Itinerary

Discover what makes Wellington a family-friendly escape in The Palm Beaches, from local events to everyday moments that make staying here feel effortless.

When people ask me why I love living in Wellington, the honest answer is… There are a lot of reasons.

It’s just one of those places that makes family life feel easier. The kids have things to do, there are parks everywhere, we’re not constantly stuck in traffic, and somehow there’s always something fun going on without it feeling chaotic.

It has that sweet spot of being active and family-friendly without feeling overwhelming. And when you’re raising kids, that balance is everything.

So, here are my top 10 reasons I love raising my family in Wellington, Florida.

1. The Thursday food truck and music nights are such a vibe

One of my favorite things is the food truck and music series at the Wellington Amphitheater on Thursdays.

As a parent, you don’t need a huge plan. You just go, grab some food, listen to music, see familiar faces, and let the kids enjoy themselves.

Wellington also does such a good job with community events in general. Holiday events, seasonal events, family stuff all year long… there’s usually something happening, which gives the whole village a really connected feel, and remember, I don’t have to plan any of it, but can enjoy all of it!

2. We can get around by golf cart, which feels kind of hilarious and amazing

I don’t think I fully appreciated how nice this was until we lived here.

In Wellington, just about every road seems to have a wide sidewalk, which means getting around by golf cart is actually a real thing. It’s also great for bike rides, walks, rollerblades, scooters, and all the everyday little outings

There’s something really fun about piling into the golf cart and heading out. It makes even simple errands or going to an event feel more relaxed and memorable.

3. Parks are everywhere

If you have kids, you know a good park can save the day, and in Wellington, parks are everywhere.

Big parks, neighborhood parks, little parks tucked into corners, playgrounds where kids can burn off energy while you sit for five seconds and pretend you’re relaxing.

We love places like Tiger Shark Cove Park, and Village Park is such a staple, too. Whether it’s sports, playground time, or just getting outside because everyone in the house needs a reset, there’s always somewhere to go.

You don’t have to search hard for family-friendly spaces. They’re just built into daily life.

4. The sports programs give kids so many ways to get involved

Wellington really shines when it comes to giving kids opportunities to play and participate.

The village sports programs have been a big part of that for us, especially with my 13-year-old daughter Julianna playing volleyball and basketball. It’s such a great way for kids to stay active, learn teamwork, and build confidence while also having fun.

I appreciate how much the community seems to value youth sports and activities.

5. Palm Beach Skate Zone is close, which is huge for our hockey family

Yes, we have ice in South Florida. For families with hockey players, this is a big one.

Palm Beach Skate Zone being nearby is incredibly convenient, especially when hockey starts becoming less of a hobby and more of a lifestyle. Because I married a Canadian hockey player,, hockey is everybody’s thing except mine, so trust me, I know how much time gets spent around the rink.

Having it close by makes practices, games, and everything in between so much more manageable. Anything that cuts down on extra driving automatically gets a gold star from me.

6. There are so many ways for kids to grow outside of sports, too

Landon, my 11-year-old, started a vending machine business at the Community Center, and that has been such a cool experience. I love that he had a chance to do something entrepreneurial and learn real-life skills in a way that felt exciting and hands-on.

We also can’t get enough of the library and all the activities offered there. My 6-year-old son Dylan loves the ARF program. It stands for Animal Reading Friends and welcomes kids to read to therapy dogs to practice their vocabulary skills free of judgment from listeners.

That kind of thing matters. Sports are great, but so are creativity, independence, and learning how to try something new. I really appreciate living in a place that supports both.

7. The restaurant options are way better than people expect

Let’s talk about food, because yes, this matters.

Wellington has a ton of restaurants, and I love that we have options like Agliolio for Italian, Lemongrass for Asian, Mole for Mexican, and Alacruz Grill for Argentinian. Quick dinners, family meals, casual lunches, meeting up with friends, grabbing something easy after practice… It’s all here.

And when life is busy, having lots of restaurant choices nearby makes the week run so much smoother. Sometimes dinner is about making memories, and sometimes dinner is about surviving Tuesday. Wellington supports both.

8. The shopping is just easy

There is something to be said for living somewhere that makes errands less annoying.

Between the Mall at Wellington Green and all the other local and major stores around Wellington, shopping is convenient. You can get what you need without turning it into a full-day event, and I don’t take that for granted. (Oh yeah, and my kids absolutely love the arcade at the mall, too!)

It’s one of those things that sounds small until you’re living it. When everything you need is nearby, everyday life feels lighter. And with kids, lighter is always good.

9. The equestrian scene is fun (even if you’re not an equestrian)

Wellington is obviously known for being the winter equestrian capital of the world, and even though we’re not horse people ourselves, it’s still such a fun part of living here.

There’s something really unique about being in a place where these events are happening right in your community. It gives Wellington personality, it makes the season feel exciting, and it’s genuinely fun to attend or just be around, even if you’re there more for the atmosphere than anything else.

I like that Wellington has something distinctive about it. It doesn’t feel cookie-cutter.

10. The traffic is surprisingly manageable

This might be the most underrated reason of all.

Everything in Wellington feels close. Parks, sports, restaurants, shopping, community events, I could go on. You’re not constantly spending your life in the car, which makes such a difference when you’re juggling school, activities, work, and everything else.

And even during equestrian season, traffic is still pretty manageable, and you can land a parking spot anywhere, compared to so many other places in South Florida. That alone is enough to make me grateful.

Less time driving and more time actually living? That’s a win.

It’s the kind of place that makes everyday life easier

I think that’s really what it comes down to.

Wellington isn’t just nice for the big things. It’s nice for the regular, everyday parts of family life, too. The after-school routines, the last-minute dinner plans, the weekends when you want something to do without making a whole production out of it, the quick trips to practice, the park stops, the community events, the ability to get around without feeling like you’re spending half your life in traffic.

It just works… and when you’re raising a family, that matters more than people realize.

From community events to everyday ease, Wellington offers a staycation that’s as effortless as it is family-friendly. Continue exploring The Palm Beaches with more destinations in our Staycation Series and start planning your next getaway.
