Accessible Attractions & Tours


Cox Science Center & Aquarium

 
Accessibility information: 

  • The Cox Science Center & Aquarium is equipped to accommodate visitors with physical disabilities. All exhibits and spaces are wheelchair accessible, except for the Observatory which has several options to accommodate guests. 
  • Wheelchairs are available free of charge. 
  • The Center host Sensory Saturdays on the 1st Saturday of each month from 9:00 – 10:00 am. 
  • Quieter times: Saturday and Sunday mornings from 10:00 – 11:00 am and weekday afternoons after 2:00 pm (during school year) are often less busy, quieter times to visit. September is usually a less busy, quieter time of year to visit.
  • Wheelchair-accessible restrooms are located throughout the building. They are all sensory-friendly and DO NOT have hand dryers or auto-flush mechanisms. 
  • Light, noise, and crowds vary widely throughout the building.

Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society

 
Accessibility information: 

  • Wheelchairs are available to rent for $10 daily. Rentals are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Motorized scooters available to rent at $40 per day.  
  • Palm Beach Zoo allows “service animals” as described in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Please note, “assistance animals” are not within the scope of the ADA definition and are not permitted in the Zoo.
  • Service animals MUST be declared to the guest services staff before entry and always remain on a short leash.
  • Service animals are not allowed inside the aviary, but accommodations can be arranged to ensure guests have access. Guests needing assistance are encouraged to speak with the Zoo Staff in the Aviary to request accommodations.

Accessibility information: 

  • Lion Country Safari is mostly handicap accessible with a few exceptions. Accessible locations as well as areas with limited accessibility in Safari World are noted on our park map. 
  • In the drive-through section, you will be in your own vehicle or in a rental van. 
  • The walk-through area is either concrete walkways or boardwalks and there are no stairs. 
  • To access the picnic area, you will have to go over a short grassy area. 
  • The petting zoo is served by paved walkways which are wheelchair accessible; however, there is a double gate system to keep the animals in, which would require some assistance to wheelchair users.

Loggerhead Marinelife Center

 
Accessibility information:

  • Loggerhead Marinelife Center offers accessible tours for ocean conservation and appreciation.  
  • In collaboration with Clinics Can Help, a nonprofit that serves people with disabilities, LMC recently acquired a second beach wheelchair for use in the Turtle Walk, Hatchling Release, and Sunrise Nest Excavation programs. 
  • The Center has sensory backpacks available for checkout at the welcome desk, which include headphones, sunglasses, gloves, fidget spinners, and communication boards.
  • Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s Sensory Saturdays is an opportunity for adults and children on the autism spectrum that are looking for a more inclusive experience while visiting the facility with their friends, families and caregivers. During these hours, guests will be able to explore the outdoor hospital and indoor exhibits with reduced lighting and sounds.
  • Loggerhead Marinelife Center is now offering American Sign Language tours in addition to their regularly scheduled daily tours for guests visiting the Center.
  • American Sign Language tours are available to anyone interested in an ASL guided experience of Loggerhead Marinelife Center. ASL tours are available by request and led by an ASL-fluent guide.
  • Those interested in a tour should register in advance as availability is limited. ASL tours are offered by request seven days a week during the Center’s normal operating hours. ASL guided tours last about one hour and are $10 per person with a five-person or $50 minimum.

  • Assisted Listening Devices are available at several locations.
  • Closed-caption DVDs and videos are available for loan at all locations. DVDs in our general collection, including foreign films, have the option of being played with English subtitles.

Mounts Botanical Garden

Accessibility information:

  • FREE use of special Mounts Sensory Backpacks for both children and adult visitors with sensory sensitivities. Each waterproof backpack contains calming tools to help visitors with sensory sensitivities adjust to new faces, new activities, bright lights, a range of noise levels, and more. Sensory tools include noise-cancelling headphones, polarized sunglasses, and a variety of fidget toys and devices. Visitors can check-out a Mounts Sensory Backpack by leaving their driver license at the Welcome Center, which will be returned after their Garden tour. Each backpack and its content will be thoroughly disinfected with alcohol between each use.

Mounts Botanical Garden worked with the FAU Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) to implement the program.

Henry Morrison Flagler Museum

 
Accessibility information for the Henry Morrison Flagler Museum:

  • Accessible parking is located near the Museum entrance.
  • Visitors using mobility devices and aids may gain access to Whitehall through the Museum’s accessible entrance located on the south side of the property. 
  • Permanent ramps and an elevator have been installed.
  • Wheelchair-accessible restrooms are located on the first floor of Whitehall and in the Flagler Kenan Pavilion. 
  • The museum offers self-directed audio guides, written brochures in multiple languages, Docent-led tours that utilize a group guide system for amplification, and a smartphone app (Bluetooth enabled). 
  • A closed caption video is playing outside of Railcar No. 91, as an alternative option for visitors who cannot safely board Railcar No. 91.

  • Parking: Accessible parking spaces are conveniently located near the entrance.
  • Admissions & Gift Shop: A wheelchair ramp provides easy access to this facility.
  • Restrooms: Restrooms on the grounds are wheelchair accessible.
  • Pathways: A wide, brick-paved pathway winds through key features, including the Tindall Pioneer Homestead, Seminole Chickee, and Native American Kiosks.
  • Tindall Pioneer Homestead Exhibit: This exhibit includes a wheelchair ramp with handrails for accessibility.
  • Historic Areas: Some historic areas of the light station, such as the Lighthouse tower, are accessible only by stairs.
  • Lighthouse Deck: The deck (at the base of the stairs which lead to the Lighthouse) is wheelchair accessible and provides access to the Keepers Workshop, Banyan Tree, and Cistern.
  • Service Animals: Trained service animals are welcome on tours and in the Museum. For safety reasons, animals are not allowed to ascend the Lighthouse tower. Service animals must remain on a leash or harness and be under the handler’s control at all times.
  • Seating and Rest Areas: Benches and shaded seating areas are located throughout the property for guest convenience.
  • Visitor Assistance: Staff and volunteers are stationed at key points around the property to assist guests.

 Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens welcomes all visitors, including people with disabilities, older adults, and veterans.

Morikami is wheelchair accessible (but wheelchairs are not provided) in accordance with provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA):

  • A push button is available to open the main entrance door automatically.
  • The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens are predominately ADA-accessible in all areas of the Museum and areas closest to the Main Museum. The garden path consists of compacted natural material and may not be suitable for every visitor’s ability to navigate the 7/8 mile in its entirety. Wheelchairs with larger than standard tires are recommended.
  • Park benches are located throughout the gardens for all visitors’ comfort.
  • Accessible parking is located near the museum’s main entrance.
  • Ramp access to the gardens is located at the south end of the Cornell Café.
  • Pets are not allowed inside the museum or garden. We comply with all ADA requirements and accept service animals as defined by the ADA.   • Wheelchair-accessible seating is located in the following sections: 100, 102, 105, 108, 110, 113, 118, Field Box and Lawn. Accessible seating can be purchased online or over the phone at 561.500.4487.
  • Approximately three hundred (300) accessible parking spaces are available at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches. Accessible Parking is available from the Haverhill Road entrance in all three paved lots.
  • The ADA drop-off is located near parking lots A and B. This can be accessed by entering at the Main Entrance from Haverhill Road. Drivers should proceed to the parking attendant near the main entrance and they will direct the driver to the appropriate drop-off location.
  • Accessible ramps to the 3rd Base Plaza Gate are located at each end of the west concourse walkway. Ramps are accessible from Astros and Nationals Spring Training Gate entrances.

  • Each of the venues within the facility is wheelchair accessible and offers a variety of services to accommodate those with disabilities.
  • All Kravis Center entries are accessible to wheelchair users.
  • Parking spaces for our guests with disabilities are located on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors of the parking garage, the closest parking to our garage elevators and the covered walkway to the theaters. Additional spaces designated for disabled drivers are located on each floor of the garage. 
  • Service animals are welcome inside the Kravis Center building and must always remain on a leash or in a harness. If you intend to bring a service animal to a performance, please notify the customer service representative at the time of purchase so that they can identify the most suitable seating location for you.
  • Accessible seating is available for all shows on a first-come, first-served basis. Be sure to mention your need for wheelchair-accessible seating or other accommodations when placing your ticket order. Guests are encouraged to bring their own wheelchairs.
  • The Kravis Center is equipped with four large elevators located on the east and west sides of the lobby. Controls are designated in Braille.
  • With the exception of the balcony, there are restrooms on all levels of the Kravis Center that contain facilities for our guests with disabilities. Signage on all restrooms is designated in Braille.
  • A state-of-the-art, infrared audio enhancement system is available for the hearing impaired during all performances in Dreyfoos Hall, the Rinker Playhouse and Persson Hall. Assistive Listening Devices are available on a first come, first served basis.
  • The Kravis Center provides open captioning for the first Saturday matinee performances of Kravis On Broadway presentations. Live performance Captioning (or open captioning) is a text display located on the side of the stage that scrolls words in synchronization with the performance. Reserved seats for people with hearing loss will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are in need of this service, please alert the Box Office when ordering tickets.
  • Sign language interpreters are provided at Sunday matinee performances of Kravis On Broadway presentations.

Here are some wheelchair-accessible beaches to explore during your visit to The Palm Beaches:

South Inlet Park Beach, Boca Raton

South Inlet Park Beach is a peaceful and less crowded beach that offers a sandy shoreline, picnic areas, barbecue pits, and a playground. A free manual beach wheelchair is available from lifeguards on a first-come, first-served basis.

Atlantic Dunes Park, Delray Beach

At Atlantic Dunes Park, wheelchair users can explore a 300-foot hard-packed nature trail, a boardwalk, and a Mobi-Mat that extends near the water. Manual beach wheelchairs are available daily until 5 p.m. for free, with a two-hour usage limit to ensure access for all.

Oceanfront Park, Ocean Ridge

Oceanfront Park features both manual beach wheelchairs and a Mobi-Mat, allowing wheelchair users to get close to the water. Amenities include picnic tables, grills, and the on-site Turtle Cafe for snacks and meals.

Bicentennial Park at Riviera Beach Marina Village

This park offers a 5-foot-wide Mobi-Mat that extends from the sidewalk to near the water. Two amphibious wheelchairs are also available, letting users float in the water. Call ahead at 561-707-9015 to reserve these special wheelchairs.

Phil Foster Park, Riviera Beach

Located on an Intracoastal island, Phil Foster Park features calm waters, hard-packed sand, and free manual beach wheelchairs available from the lifeguards. Other attractions include a snorkeling trail, fishing areas, and a playground.

Ocean Reef Park, Riviera Beach

With a boardwalk ramp leading to the beach, Ocean Reef Park is perfect for sunrise views, picnics, and relaxing by the ocean. Free manual beach wheelchairs are provided upon request from the lifeguards.

R.G. Kreusler Park, Palm Beach

Spanning over four acres, this park offers free manual beach wheelchairs and accessible paths from the parking lot to the sand. Call Ocean Rescue at 561-629-8770 to arrange for a wheelchair upon arrival.

Carlin Park, Jupiter

This expansive park includes picnic areas, pavilions, and live entertainment at the Seabreeze Amphitheater. A ramp at the north end of Carlin Park leads to the beach, and manual beach wheelchairs are available from the lifeguards.

Ocean Cay Park, Jupiter

This serene beachfront park offers a ramp for wheelchair access and free manual beach wheelchairs, ensuring a relaxing visit surrounded by natural beauty.

DuBois Park, Jupiter

Famous for its views of the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse, DuBois Park provides manual beach wheelchairs and a small Mobi-Mat. Plans to expand the Mobi-Mat are underway to enhance accessibility further.

Additional Accessible Beaches

Five new beach access mats have been launched as part of the Beach Access Mat Project. The project included the installation of five new beach access mats at DuBois Park, Ocean Cay Park, Ocean Reef Park, Phil Foster Park and South Inlet Park, creating safer and more convenient pathways across sand for individuals with mobility challenges, families with strollers and visitors of all ages. Plans are also in place to install additional mats at Ocean Inlet Park on the lagoon side and at Jupiter Beach Park, further expanding accessible beach access throughout the county.

Traditionally, the fair’s bright lights, loud sounds, and crowded spaces posed significant challenges for these families, leading many to skip the event altogether. However, this no longer needs to be the case.

Thanks to a partnership with KultureCity, the South Florida Fair is now Sensory Inclusive. Staff members are trained to recognize and assist individuals with sensory needs, and tools are available to help attendees of all abilities enjoy the fair.

Transportation

Getting around The Palm Beaches is convenient with several accessible transportation options available for visitors. Palm Tran’s fixed-route buses are fully ADA-compliant and equipped with ramps or lifts, while Palm Tran Connection (PTC) offers door-to-door, shared-ride paratransit service for eligible riders, including visitors staying in the area.

Travelers can also take advantage of Brightline’s wheelchair-accessible trains with step-free boarding, accessible taxis and ride services, as well as private transportation providers like Safe Travels Transportation. In some downtown areas, free trolleys offer another easy way to get around.

To make Palm Beaches a more accessible and inclusive destination, Discover The Palm Beaches has partnered with Wheel the World, a travel solution for people with disabilities that allows users to book hotels and attractions that match their accessibility needs.

This is part of a key marketing campaign to position The Palm Beaches in front of a very large and sometimes overlooked market segment. The objective of this collaboration is to assess, train, and promote local lodging, businesses, and tourist attractions to better market to travelers with disabilities.

The Palm Beaches has partnered with Travelability & Whereabout to map out a long-term Accessibility Tourism Strategy.

We are a Titanium partner with their Destinations Ally Club, a consortium of forward-thinking destinations brought together by TravelAbility to collaborate on ways in which to accelerate inclusivity for guests (and locals) with disabilities.

The partnership involves identifying stakeholders, community members, internal team members to participate in surveys, interviews, feedback, etc. to help shape the strategy. We are in the process of undertaking a tourism master plan in our destination, and accessibility will be weaved into that as well for infrastructure assessments and updates throughout the community.
