Three Days in The Palm Beaches for LGBTQ+ Travelers

Julie Seaver, CEO of Compass LGBTQ Community Center in Lake Worth Beach, shares her favorite way to experience The Palm Beaches.

The Palm Beaches are proud to extend a warm, friendly welcome to all who visit us. Our 39 cities and towns carry on a longstanding legacy of hospitality for all members of the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender and queer community. Not only are The Palm Beaches a year-round hot spot for LGBTQ+ vacations, it’s a place an ever-growing and diverse community calls home. From Jupiter to Boca Raton, The Palm Beaches offer lots for LGBTQ+ travelers to love. Our serene beauty mixes well with culture, history, entertainment and nightlife that grows more cosmopolitan all the time. Join us as I take you across the county on a three-day excursion through The Palm Beaches.

Day 1:

Morning: Start your trip to The Palm Beaches in Lake Worth Beach, wedged between some of the most action-packed waterways in The Palm Beaches. Sit down for breakfast at Benny’s on The Beach, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. After that, be sure to hit the beach or stop by Kayak Lake Worth to paddle your way through the natural Snook Islands of the Lake Worth Lagoon.

Afternoon: The revitalized downtown of Lake Worth Beach has its own distinct charms worth discovering. Along its two main streets, Lake Avenue and Lucerne Avenue, visitors can meander through the eclectic mix of shops, restaurants, art galleries, music venues and unique specialty shops. On an Inside The Cottages Home Tour, visitors can check out more than 10 whimsical cottages, as well as get the opportunity to chat with the welcoming homeowners who embody living large in small spaces.

Evening: Stop at Rhythm Cafe to enjoy American cuisine crafted by two award-winning chefs served in a renovated 1950’s drugstore that highlights a whimsical retro decor with five-star service. End the night with drinks at Madhatter Lounge, one of the area’s most popular gay bars. The friendly neighborhood lounge has a large patio, billiards, karaoke, open mic nights, games, light food and a good mix of cocktails, beers and wine.

Day 2:

Morning: Explore quaint vias and esplanades dripping with bougainvillea in Palm Beach. See and be seen on iconic Worth Avenue, a shopping mecca that often gets mentioned in the same breath as Fifth Avenue and Rodeo Drive. You’ll also find charming cafés tucked into bougainvillea-scented courtyards where you can cool off with a refreshing glass of rosé. Reveal the glamour on Historic Walking Tours of Wonderful Worth Avenue  or stop by the Flagler Museum, the grand former estate of railroad magnate Henry Flagler.

Afternoon: Across the bridge, you’ll find the energetic hub of West Palm Beach. View extensive collections of art pieces at the Norton Museum of Art, take in a performance (concerts, comedy shows, ballets, operas and more) at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts or shop to your heart’s content at Tanger Outlets Palm Beach.

Evening: Be sure to go to Darbster, Table 26 or Grease Burger Bar for delicious cuisine that will satisfy all tastes.

Day 3:

Morning: End your trip by taking in some of Florida’s natural wonder. Swim alongside sea turtles and tropical fish at Phil Foster Park or try your hand at fishing at Snook Islands Natural Preserve.

Afternoon: Stop by Downtown Delray Beach a haven for art, culture, shopping and foodies alike.  Delray Beach is a place that proudly puts its rich history on display. Find a moment of zen at Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens.

Evening: End the evening in Delray at Arts Garage, which presents Grammy award-winning musicians, top-notch arts education and outreach programs, and a spacious visual art gallery that displays emerging local talent. Arts Garage is located a few steps away from Atlantic Ave, where you can enjoy a variety of dining and entertainment options.
